What If?… On Islam – January 4th, 2014 11:09 am

UnknownLet’s play, “what if…”

What if I presented to you a person who said he loved God. So much so, that he would willingly die for God.

Now what if he told you that he reads from a book that says not only was Jesus not God, but that He didn’t even die on the cross. Not only that, but somehow Jesus’ Mother – at the very foot of said cross – could not distinguish between her Son and an impostor… that the man on the cross was a look-alike… that the crucifixion was just some sort of ruse to deceive.

What if this person said not only was he holy, but his religion and his book were “holy”? Furthermore, what if he said Christians were not only NOT holy but that Christians and their religion are worthy of decimation due entirely to their unholiness?

You know where I’m going here, don’t you?

“And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them.” (Koran 4:157)

Now. What if I told you the very Vicar of Christ called the Koran “holy”? Would you believe it?

“The sacred writings of Islam have retained some Christian teachings… We must never forget that they “profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, who will judge humanity on the last day”… authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence.” (Evangelii Gaudium, para 252-3)

Think of that, for a second. The pope leads the charge for Christ’s Great Commission. And this Great Commission calls for… calling religions and their books that deny Jesus IS the Christ “holy”?

I do not wish to get into a Facebook brawl. Truly, I do not. I don’t even necessarily need to see any responses, here. All I want to ask those who have taken issue with my confusion over the pope’s words is…
What am I missing?

What if… the pope is wrong?
